Minneapolis Rent Control Battle Begins

The Minneapolis City Council has scheduled a public hearing for February 24 to discuss their proposed Rent Control Charter Amendments before the Policy & Government Oversight Committee.

There are two charter amendments they will be discussing.

The first option amends the city’s charter to allow the city council to implement rent control by simply passing an ordinance. The second option would amend the charter would require an initiative and referendum on the issue of rent control as a first step for voter adoption of a rent control ordinance.

It is important that your voice be heard. Reach out to the council member who represents your ward via email and telephone.  To find which ward your rental property is in, click here.
