Minneapolis Council Member Jeremiah Ellison Will Not Seek Re-Election

In all the holiday hubbub last week you may have missed Minneapolis City Council Member Jeremiah Ellison’s announcement he will not seek re-election next year.

Ellison, who represents Ward 5 in north Minneapolis, was one of the council’s advocates for rent control, TOPA, COPA and the majority of the 2020’s then council members who promised to defund the police.

Ellison is Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison’s son. His mother, Kim, is on the Minneapolis School Board.

All 13 Minneapolis city council seats are up for election in 2025, as is the mayor’s office.
