On Wednesday Minnesota Governor Tim Walz extended the state’s peacetime emergency order through September 11.
For thousands of Minneapolis and St Paul landlords and tenants, this means the state’s moratorium on evictions continues.
Tenants who have been unable to pay rent may not be evicted until the ban is lifted.
However, it does not mean tenants are not responsible for paying the rent. Unless they make arrangements with their landlords to pay the past due amount, landlords may begin eviction proceedings the minute the peacetime emergency ends.
